The Living New Deal, a nonprofit organization that was established at University of California, Berkeley in 2007, documents, preserves and promotes the New Deal Legacy, through research, publications, talks and tours.
I designed this prospectus as a tool to raise funds for the establishment of the Living New Deal Center, a permanent venue for New Deal archives and artifacts, and public gathering place for lectures, films, and exhibitions.
Front cover features a mural that was commissioned in 1942 by the WPA (Works Progress Administration), and agency of the American New Deal. The mural, “The Bauxite Mines,” was painted by Julius Woeltz in the Benton, Arkansas Post Office.
The inside spread of the 4-page brochure features photographs and prints sourced from the collections of the Library of Congress, The Smithsonian Institute, and the Roosevelt Presidential Library.
One of the challenging, but most interesting tasks in working with The Living New Deal, is the art research work of archives of these national institutions. The online research is time-consuming, but the collections hold amazingly fascinating and beautiful art and photography.
